When an oil leakage has been identified by any means it’s essential that both
elements be replaced immediately if possible – in particular both gaskets must also be.
Before opening the drain plug, be sure to protect both your hands and eyes by
donning gloves or eye protection. Motor oil, antifreeze, brake fluid and other

Once the oil drain plug has been loosening with a socket wrench and removed from
its fitting, allow all of it to drain into your oil pan before tightening it back securely

Make sure the car is parked on level ground and is cool to touch (depending on its

dipstick; older cars typically feature a yellow handle on its tube.
Gently take out and wipe clean the dipstick before slowly reinserting it; make sure
that it has been installed all of the way into its socket to avoid a false reading.
Recheck the dipstick to see how much oil it reads. Every dipstick features some sort
of indicator to show when oil levels are full or low – such as two pinholes, letters L &
