Change your oil as part of regular car maintenance to protect the engine against
wear and tear and maintain optimal functioning. Aiming for every 7,000 to 10,000
miles for optimal engine lubrication.
Motor oil helps prevent engine knocking by keeping components, like your pistons,
from colliding. High-grade oils also help reduce sludge build-up.
What is an Oil Change?
Your vehicle’s motor oil plays an integral part in protecting and maintaining its
engine parts, keeping them cool, and mitigating harmful substances that could
otherwise cause irreparable harm. Our technicians specialize in servicing oil
changes; during an oil change service they will remove and replace your old engine
oil, replace its filter, inspect all other filters as necessary and top-off essential fluids
as required – while giving a free inspection of your vehicle – regardless of driving
conditions or type. Chevrolet recommends using either conventional or synthetic
motor oil depending on how often your engine runs.
Conventional oil should typically be changed every 3,000-5,000 miles while
synthetic oil should typically be changed between 7,500 – 10,000 miles. To find the
optimal intervals for you and your vehicle, it’s wise to consult your owner’s manual
or speak to a dealer. We offer high mileage engine oils designed specifically for cars
over 75,000 miles of mileage – these help to reduce consumption, leaks and
emissions as well as lower smoke production from older engines.
How to Change the Oil
Oil changes are generally straightforward services. A Chevrolet Malibu needs
approximately 4.2 quarts of oil for its oil change service at Asbury Automotive’s
service centers; their charges usually range between $29 and $37 depending on
where your location is.
Oil serves to protect and lubricate engine components, protecting them from
grinding against each other and creating unnecessary heat or damage. Furthermore,
oil captures dust particles and debris which pass through to its filter system for
removal – helping maintain a cleaner engine environment and increasing fuel
efficiency by decreasing force requirements for moving parts within it.
Bill Estes Chevy Indianapolis recommends following your vehicle manufacturer’s
suggested oil change intervals to maximize both mileage and resale value when
selling your car. An oil change at our service center typically takes less than 30 minutes!
Changing the Oil Filter
Change your oil and filter regularly to preserve the life of your engine, increase
resale value and ensure maximum performance from your Chevrolet. Use high-
grade motor oil that suits how and where you drive; whether that be conventional,
synthetic, or combination oils is up to you; conventional works great for everyday
drivers while synthetic is superior because it doesn’t break down as easily; this may
allow longer periods between changes.
Start by parking your car on a flat, level surface and applying the
emergency/parking brake. Support it using jack stands (referring to your owner’s
manual for location). Remove the oil drain plug, clean any spilled oil off of it and the
plug and pan and wipe any stray drops of oil off before using an oil filter wrench
such as Lisle 63600 to easily take out both filters/drain plugs/filter wrench.
Changing the Motor Oil
Oil provides important engine components with essential lubrication so they don’t
grind together or produce excess heat which could damage them. Motor oil also
picks up dirt particles and transports them to its filter where they are trapped – helping keep engines clean!
Low oil levels can cause your engine temperature to skyrocket, leading to serious mechanical problems. Regular oil changes help prevent this scenario by keeping your engine lubricated and cool.
At Bill Estes Chevrolet Indianapolis, our experts can drain and replace your engine oil, change out its filter, inspect any other filters present, top off other fluids as necessary and perform a free vehicle inspection for you.
